PVC versus ABS—the heavyweight championship of drain pipe! 🥊🚽
PVC shows up white, clean, respectable, carrying primer and cement like it has a master’s degree in plumbing.
ABS rolls in wearing black, looking like it just got paroled from the plumbing supply house. 😂 One-step cement, no small talk, and ready to drain something.
Both can make excellent DWV piping when properly installed and approved by local code. The problem usually isn’t the pipe—it’s the jackleg holding the glue!
That’s when somebody says, “PVC, ABS…pipe is pipe. Just glue that sucker together!”
ABSOLUTELY! And while you’re at it, repair your transmission with Gorilla Glue and install your water heater with duct tape. 😂
There are approved methods for transitioning between materials. There’s also the Billy Bob Method: grab three cans of glue, a Fernco, two zip ties, say “that ain’t going nowhere,” and cover it up before anybody sees it.
PVC or ABS? We’ll work with what the job and code require.
But if your sewer system looks like Home Depot and Lowe’s got drunk, had a plumbing baby, and abandoned it underneath your house…CALL AMERICAN PLUMBING!
We’ve been fixing “MY BUDDY KNOWS PLUMBING” for over 30 years! 🔧😂🚽
