Before reporting that your outside faucet is leaking, take a few seconds to make sure it’s actually turned completely off. It happens more often than you might think—a hose bib left partially or fully open can waste hundreds of gallons of water and make it look like you have a plumbing problem when you really don’t. If water is pouring from the end of the faucet or hose, check the handle first before assuming the worst. A simple twist of the handle may solve the issue instantly and save you the cost of an unnecessary service call. If the faucet is completely off and water continues to drip or flow, then it’s time to call a plumber. Spending a few seconds confirming the faucet is shut off can save water, money, and a little embarrassment. At American Plumbing, we’re always happy to help—but sometimes the easiest plumbing repair is simply turning the faucet off! Call us at 225-756-8480 if the water keeps flowing after it’s fully closed.
